School

Spooky Mi'kmaq did you know?? In the Mi’kmaq culture, owls are believed to be a bad omen. Since they are active at night, they are associated with mischief, the supernatural and even death. Long ago Mi'kmaq people believed that medicine people were bad, or as some would say back in the day, that they were witches drawn to spiritual power that could do harm to others. Medicine people that practiced “bad medicine” were believed to have the ability to shape-shift or transform themselves into an animal. It was believed they would change into the form of an owl so that they could fly silently through the night to cast spells on sleeping people while they were vulnerable to spiritual forces. Because the average tribal member did not have the knowledge to distinguish a real owl from a shapeshifter, all owls were avoided just to be safe.

Sports

The Boys JV Basketball will be having open Tryouts tonight from 8 to 10 PM & Thursday from 8 to 10 PM.Please come ready to play with appropriate GYM wear. All are welcome.

Have nothing to do on Halloween night? Come out to Cole Harbour Place to support our Hockey Teams! The girls take on Dartmouth High at 4:00 pm and the boys also take on Dartmouth High at 6:30pm.

Community

The Royal Canadian Legion invites students to participate in the Legion’s 2023 National Youth Remembrance Poster, Literary and Video contests. Information is posted on the bulletin board outside the main office and guidelines can be found online at remembrancecontests.ca.
