Welcome to semester 2! We have a lot of announcements today. Please check our online announcements for details. Scholarship seeking people please check our scholarship page weekly for updates.

Grad photo retakes will take place next Tuesday, Feb 11. Please sign up in Student services. If you are not signed up you will not get your picture done. There will be a $5 sitting fee payable at the photo session and there will be NO GROUP PICTURES done on this day. If you have not yet picked up your grad photo proofs please do so in the main office.

COMING TO AUBURN:
A representative from Memorial University of Newfoundland will be here on Tuesday February 25th at 9:30am to discuss their institution, programs and answer any questions students may have.  If interested in attending, please sign up in Student Services.

A representative from Saint Mary’s University will host a lunch time visit on Thursday, February 13th for Grade 12 students who have been accepted, are interested in, or have any questions about Saint Mary’s University!  They will bring pizza, so if you would like to attend, you MUST sign up in Student Services by Tuesday February 11th.

A representative from the University of New Brunswick will be here on Tuesday February 4th during lunch to speak to interested students about on-the-spot admissions, their programs and answer any other questions you may have!  Please stop by and see Mackenzie, if you are interested in UNB!

A representative from Mount Saint Vincent University will be coming to Auburn on Monday February 24th at 12:05pm to speak with students about their institution, programs and admissions.  They are offering FREE on-the-spot admissions to students interested in applying.  If you would like to attend, please sign up in Student Services and if you would like to apply, you must bring a transcript to the information session.  To order a transcript, please sign your name on the clipboard in Student Services no later than Wednesday February 19th, 2020. 

Acadia University will be here on Wednesday Feb 12th at lunch. This session is for students who have already applied, those who are interested in applying, or any student who wants to chat more about what Acadia has to offer/specific questions. The application fee will be waived! Please sign up in Student
Services.

A representative from St. Thomas university will be here at Auburn at lunch time on February 28th. Please sign up in student services.

UNB is hosting a Future Student Event in Halifax on Saturday February 8th at the Double Tree by Hilton in Dartmouth.  The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about UNB – students, parents, teachers, family and friends.  For more information, go to UNB’s website.

The paans organization is offering several scholarship opportunities for students with permanent disabilities.  To be considered, scholarship applicants must: B a person with a permanent disability; Be a permanent resident of Nova Scotia; Be entering or continuing studies, at the undergraduate level, in a Canadian post-secondary institution that is recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada; and not be involved in the selection process or be a close family member of any scholarship selection committee member.  For more information, please see the poster in Student Services.  The due date is April 3rd, 2020.

The John Abbass Senior Memorial Scholarship is a $3,000 scholarship for a resident of Nova Scotia who plans to pursue a degree in business or a degree related to their family business.  Candidates must have achieved a grade point average of 80% and will preferably have a family business background, interest in becoming involved in their family business or pursing their own business interests.  For more information, please see the poster in Student Services.  The due date is March 31st, 2020.
The Donald R. Sobey Bursary Program awards renewable bursaries valued at $2,500 to students entering NSCC on a full-time basis.  Candidates must be referred by a member of a community group or agency, planning to enrol in a full-time program at NSCC and can show unmet financial need.  For more information, please see the poster in Student Services. 

On Tuesday February 18, 2020, the University of Ottawa invites you to information evening in Halifax, to meet with uOttawa representative, Doris Ng Ingham. Dalhousie University is hosting two session on the options available to students on how to finance their post-secondary education. Students can join us online on February 5, or in-person on February 12 in Dartmouth, N.S. The sessions will be led by our financial aid and scholarship experts and will help students understand the options for financing their education. Sessions will also cover budgeting tips, how to apply for entrance awards and more. The IWK Foundation invites applications for the Robbie and Jean Shaw Scholarship. This award consists of two non-renewable scholarships valued at $2,500 each.  Eligible applicants are current or former IWK patients who have an academic average of 75% or higher and who are entering their first year of post-secondary studies. Applicants must submit a minimum 500 word essay.  For more information see the bulletin board in Student Services.

Mount A University is hosting a conference for high school and university students where youth build software projects and pitch them to judges from companies including Google and Dell EMC. The theme for MtA Hacks 2020 is Games and Education, featuring workshops, networking, and social events. Registration is free: we’ll provide food, swag, and accommodations. IODE PROVINCIAL BURSARY: The 2020 bursary application is open for both male & female grade 12 students. The deadline for receiving applications is March 30, 2020.  Late applications will not be considered.  Please make sure students know they have to consider how long it would take for their applications to get to me through the mail system.

Sports:
The Halifax Hurricanes are looking for volunteers to assist with home game tasks. Please see your phys-ed teacher for contact information.
The athlete of the month for January is grade 12 Matyia David! This is her first ever season playing basketball and she’s killing it!! Her determination and energy is amazing!! Keep up the the great work Matyia!!

There is a meeting today at the beginning of lunch in room 224 for anyone who is interested in joining the ski team

Short meeting for students interested in playing on the schools badminton team at lunch in room 104.

Any and all boys and girls.   There will be open tryouts this week for Auburn Rugby. 
They will be in our school Gym from 4 to 6pm.  Tryout dates are:  Wednesday, February 5th.  Thursday, February 6th.  Friday, February 7th. Please make sure that you are wearing gym clothes and sneakers. All are welcome.  No experience necessary.

School:
Dungeons and Dragons…the date has been changed to Wednesday after school to close. You will be rolling for your characters tomorrow at lunch and Wed at lunch. Bring your dice. Character sheets will be provided as well as instructions if you haven’t done it before. Play will commence at 4pm in Student Services on Wednesday. Please arrange for a ride to pick you up at 9pm. Bring your supper.
