What is your “why”? What drives you to do this important work each day?
Providing culturally appropriate support and services to Indigenous students and their families that they might not receive otherwise.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Watching the Indigenous students build that community within their schools and seeing the students connect and learn from their Indigenous peers. Also seeing firsthand how their non-Indigenous peers quickly become allies when they learn more about our culture and traditions.
What would you most like families to know about the role of Student Support Workers in HRCE?
That working with their students is rewarding and even though some days are difficult and topics can be heavy that we will always advocate and be there for their students.
