Reporting Student Absences

The preferred method for reporting absences is in writing. At the high school level, using Power School to report absences is not available.

Please email msaunders@hrce.ca to report a student absence (this should be done from a parent/guardian email address). In your email please include - student name, student grade, and expected date of return to school.  Alternatively, a written note may be dropped off in the main office upon student's return.

Please note: 

  • Field trip and school athletic absences will be updated after the fact, once a list of those students who were in attendance is sent.  This can sometimes take a couple of days.
  • Co-op attendance is entered by the co-op teacher at the end of the week, once confirmation of attendance at the placement is confirmed.

Auburn Attendance Policy

  •  As per policy if a student has missed 20% of the course (18.2 classes) throughout a semester they may be eligible to lose the credit for that course and will not be eligible for credit recovery.
  • If a student has missed 20% of class time (15 min or more) they are to be marked absent.
    • 15min late for class will be entered into PowerSchool as an absent.
    • If a student leaves 15min before the class has ended, they have missed 20% of the class time and should be marked absent.
    • Professional judgment may be needed to adjust for various school activities or specific situations.
    • If a student has been late for class five times an absence will be added to their total.
